What is an emergency?

 

Emergency calls and walk-in emergencies are always our first priority.  Anything and everything can be a medical mergency for your pet.  Seek emergency care for a pet in these situations:

 

  • Trauma from a fall or being struck by a car
  • Seizures
  • Trouble breathing
  • Unconsciousness
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea for more than 24 hours or acutely if severe
  • Broken bones
  • Bleeding from the eyes, nose, or mouth
  • Blood in urine or feces
  • Ingestion or suspected swallowing of antifreeze, rat poison, human medications, household cleaners, fertilizers, pesticides, or harmful chemicals, etc.
  • Collapses
  • Signs of extreme pain, such as whining or shaking
  • Disorientation or bumping into objects
  • Swollen abdomen that is hard to the touch, painful, or continuing to expand
  • Has gone more than 3-4 hours between delivering puppies or kittens
  • Strains or is unable to urinate (especially male cats)
